The PS Vita is believed to a threat to existing portable gaming devices. Though many other brands and models of portable gaming devices used to rule the world, the coming of the PS Vita is predicted to be the probable end of these devices. We usually use portable gaming devices to free us from boredom. Smartphones have already offered casual games like Angry Birds and Temple Run with minimal cost for download. Other devices like the iPod Touch has also offered a casual gaming platform.
However, with the coming of PS Vita, smartphones and other casual portable gaming devices might slowly become unnecessary for gaming. Though the PS Vita cannot make a phone call or send a text message, it is packed with capabilities when it comes to portable gaming.
The PS Vita offers a front and rear camera, a web browser, an online store where games can be downloaded and purchased, a music player, TV shows, and an optional 3G connection through AT&T. In the coming months, Sony plan to include music streaming for the PS Vita. It also plans to make the following services available on this device – Facebook, Foursquare, and Skype. Future plans for Netflix, Twitter, and Flickr are also on the roll.
With all these features that may be available in the near future, the PS Vita costs about $299 for the 3G and Wi-Fi ready model and $249 for the Wi-Fi model only.
The design of the PS Vita is almost similar with the PSP. The game controllers are on the left and right side of the 5-inch touch-screen display. The top left and right corners act as buttons. The PS Vita sports a 7.2 inches x 3.3 inches body, which is perfect for any gaming individual. When faced with each other, the PS Vita can gobble down the iPod Touch any day. The PS Vita 3G is a bit heavy, weighing two times more than the iPhone.
The PS Vita features two analog joysticks, which Sony claims to make gaming better. Some gamers may need some time getting used to it but when you do, you will definitely find the two analog joysticks very useful in any game.
Many PS Vita titles are made for hardcore gamers. The cost of these games starts at $30. About 275 PSP titles are made for PS Vita and the price starts at 99 cents.
Wireless download of games can be easily done through Wi-Fi. You can also use 3G network but it will be slower and file should only be 20 MB or less. Battery life is approximately 3 to 5 hours when used for gaming without network turned on. Battery life is not much of an issue for this portable gaming device
